John Munroe Hospital Group - 10 Governing Principles

Governing principle- Mental health is central to quality of life. Our services aim to improve outcomes for all our service users and improve their wellbeing.

JMH Group strives help an individual to meet their goals and full potential regardless of diagnosis. Wellbeing is a personal experience so team and service goals have to also be person centred. Our team always aims for the best outcomes for the person involved .They foster hope and motivation, supporting the person and their family to set and achieve realistic goals.

Governing principle- We put people who use services at the heart of everything we do and this strategy is called 'Including People'.

Care is personalised to reflect people's needs as part of our service user strategy – there is 'No decision made about me without me'. Care at JMH Group is personalised to reflect people's needs not the needs of professionals or the system. To ensure this we have improved services by:

  • Listening user experience and service users have a role as service user champions.
  • These individuals take an active role in the unit based Service User Forums.

From this informed position they advocate and influence decisions made within Clinical Governance and the Board decision making process at JMH Group. Each of these meetings has protected time dedicated to this purpose. This is pivotal to ensure we are an accessible organisation for all our customers which include and prioritise the most important.

Governing principle-We aim to ensure more people in our services will have the very personal experience of recovery. People always have access to the information and support they need for social inclusion and to exercise choice around treatment.

Having greater ability to manage your own live, stronger social relationships is vital to recovery. Our approach includes increased varied activities, a greater sense of purpose, the skills people need for living and working. This leads to improved chances in education, better employment opportunities and a suitable and stable place to live. All of this progress results in reduced admission rates and establishment of important personal protective psychosocial factors.

Governing principle- Our services are focus on measurable outcomes and the NICE Quality Standards that deliver them.

We use recognised standardised assessments and measures including HCR 20, OTTOS, MOHOST, and HONOS. This enables all our customers to have confidence in our performance during our regular CPA reviews, Hospital Managers hearings, Mental Health Review Tribunals and other planning meetings.

Governing principle- Mental health is as important as physical health and the interrelationship between these and social functioning is vital to wellbeing.

Customers of our service have access to:

  • A dedicated mental health nursing team and consultant cover hours 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
  • A generically trained Occupational therapy team with its own department is available on site and offer a holistic treatment and adaptation approach.
  • We promote access to primary care recognising the physical health inequalities faced by our service users with regards to physical health. The service has GP services provided weekly, with the added support of a Practice Nurse who is RGN trained.

Governing principle- We add quality and value to our services by giving improved access to psychological therapies (IAPT).

The government recently set an ambitious 4 year plan for this. JMH Group proudly already provides a quite unique integrated choice of evidenced based psychological therapies available for all those who need them. This service provides enough hours so that it is viable sufficient for demands. We have moved from a purely diagnostic viewpoint to one where the individual develops their psychological formulation, directing treatment and recovery supported by the whole MDT.

Governing principle- We believe in creativity, empowering our services, service users and practitioners. The organisation has the flexibility and systems in place to respond to the needs of individual service user.

The staff team works side by side with the individual supporting them in accessing their rights and exercising their autonomy. Service users and staff at JMH Group have the freedom to innovate and to drive improvements in the services. This enables JMH Group to deliver support of the highest quality for adults of all ages, all backgrounds and cultures.

Governing principle-When services work well together they help people to overcome disadvantage and fulfil their true potential. JMH Group is a key part of this provision ethos locally, we offer dynamic modern person centred services.
