Report By Andrew Robinson: Activities Coordinator.

After weeks and weeks of preparation the John Munroe Olympics have sadly come and gone… WITH A BANG! A few weeks ago (seems so much more) a group of patients were invited to join in a small fun day of sport and entertainment. As with everything that Andrew lays his hand too it was destined to become ever so slightly more dramatic. The John Munroe Hospital Olympics were born out the idea that all four wards would be able to come together and enjoy themselves with some healthy competition.

This plan truly came to fruition on the 10th May. The day was a rip roaring success full of dramatic turns and nail biting tension. The area was surrounded by beautiful banners and bunting, which had been made over a period of time, by the patients of the participating wards.

The day began with all of the art work being displayed attached to trees and bushes. Seats were set out accordingly so that the wards would be able to relax and enjoy the events with a superb view. OT singing sensation Stephanie Burgess took to the microphone and belted out some her repertoire for patients to enjoy whilst sampling the delights of the kitchens specially prepared barbecue (Big thanks to the Kitchen staff).

Once the food had been consumed the patients made their way through to the arena. The air was filled with excitement and you could cut the tension with a knife.  Horton and the Larches battled it out for first place whilst Kipling and Rudyard made them work for their victories. Head OT Julie Morgan and Ward Manager Sharon Dodds got in on the action and helped their teams get a few extra points.

However the speed award would definitely go to Alex Meakin who was rocketing around the arena in dramatic style. The lead was passed between Horton and the Larches who were both desperate for the glory and the bragging rights. In the end though the Larches Lions took the cup with their outstanding athleticism and enthusiastic supporters. Mrs P Harris presented the winning ward with the specially designed 'Champions Cup' which they will now hold for the next 12 months.

I have it under good authority though that the next games will not go the same way and that the Horton Hellcats are already in training. Keep your eyes peeled for the next events which involve a summer fete and a special JMH Strictly Come Dancing.

Andrew would like to thank the OT team for all of their support and for all the staff and patients who helped make the day a HUGE success.
